Some photos of the evening... |
It's good to meet. It's good to talk and it's good to get to know each other! That's one of the great things about @Twitter. We are mostly "virtual" friends and acquaintances from all over the world. But once we get together at a Tweetup, bonds are forged and day to day tweeting becomes more interesting and personal.
And so it was on Saturday night, when some Dubai tweeps got together to meet @Lebanese_writer. Dania was passing through Dubai, on her way back to London after a holiday in Beirut. She lived in Dubai seven years ago and was part of the Spot On PR (@spotonpr) team . So it was nice to get her thoughts on the changes in the years since she moved to the UK and get to know her offline.
About 15 of us gathered at Reem al Bawadi, Sheikh Zayed Road, including @rupertbu, @binmugahid, @yaHya101, @jarofjuice, his sister Maisa, @_BiGsAm_, @joannazahabi, @shelo9, @WajiaSaid, @Dubaijazz, @PKGulati and @maliksoft (who was here from Jordan). Most of these amazing tweeps have blogs that you can check out.
We got to know each other a little more, chatted, joked, teased, discussed and debated over excellent Moroccan tea, sheesha, food and food for thought!
And according to @Dubaijazz, we witnessed an "Aradah" to celebrate a patron's birthday. But you will have to check his timeline for more details of this folkloric festivity that "involves frantic movement of the body, chanting and religious invocations."
A most enjoyable evening. Thank you all for coming.
